Single O, Sydney’s trailblazer roaster of single-origin coffee with a flagship cafe in Surry Hills – has been voted the Gold medal winner in the latest round of Coffee Selectors ‘Home Baristas Award’ with its signature ‘Reservoir’ blend achieving the highest score by Australia’s home brewing coffee connoisseur community. “With leading Sydney and Melbourne roasters and cafes pitched against each other vying for top votes, this was the toughest round for the Home Baristas to judge and even concluded in a tie for the Silver medal which was jointly awarded to two roasters for the first time,” said Jessica Sullivan, Founder of Coffee Selectors – Australia’s only coffee subscription that delivers four bags of beans and blends that represent top independent coffee shops in a different Australian city, every month.
Dominique Wilcox, a Home Barista member from Melbourne and highest scorer for Sydney’s Single O blend said “this coffee bean didn’t last long in my kitchen, it was so delicious I drank an extra cup a day. From Reservoir’s delicious aroma to its smooth, but bold taste – I couldn’t get enough of this coffee and it will be the first bag I open in the Home Baristas Collection box this month. I didn’t know about Single O or about their café in Surry Hills until I tasted this, but on my next trip to Sydney I know exactly which coffee shop I’ll be heading to,” she added. Coffee connoisseurs and members of the Home Baristas Club chose the top three medal winners from tasting twelve specially selected coffee beans and blends that represented the best roasters and coffee shops in Sydney and Melbourne as well as an ‘Easter’ coffee box with seasonally themed beans from roasters in Melbourne, Cairns, Perth, and NSW South Coast.
With Single O taking top honours in the latest round, Tin Man roasters from Melbourne’s Queensbury Pour House took second place in a tie with Perth-based Five Senses whose specialty beans are chosen by top coffee shops from Perth to Brisbane.
Mr Ben Stronach from Tin Man Coffee Roasters said, ” We loved seeing all the home baristas enjoying our Backgammon Blend over Easter and we are thrilled with the feedback and medal!”
White Whale roasters and cafe from Cairns, the first roaster from North Queensland to be featured by Coffee Selectors, won the Bronze medal.
Mr Fox Slotemaker from White Whale said, “Coffee Selectors has been great working with us to showcase our coffee to enthusiasts all over Australia. Great exposure for our brand.”
As well as building Australia’s first home barista community, Coffee Selectors was also created with the coffee traveller and connoisseur in mind – the kind of person that loves to travel and discover the best cafes in every place they visit, especially the independent local gems that make our coffee culture so unique.
“While Australia has a world-renowned coffee culture, it’s the micro-roasters and independent cafes in every city that make our coffee culture so special,” said Ms. Sullivan.
No surprise Single O took top honours then!
